The theory test at a glance

Singapore Polytechnic’s English theory-test listing states the format below. Check the live listing before booking: dates, availability and fees can change.

26/30 is a required score, not a statistic about how many candidates pass. A practice result is useful feedback, but it cannot promise an examination result. Our mock-test guide explains how to use a timed attempt as part of revision.

Before you book

SP lists a minimum age of 16, completion of an approved handling course and the required eyesight and colour-vision checks. Use MPA’s recognised-centre and licensing information to find the approved training route. myPPCDL is an independent study aid; buying app access does not replace that course.

Prepare your photo identification, course-attendance certificate and required medical report. Check the exact document instructions on your booking and confirmation. Questions about an individual’s eligibility or medical requirements belong with the official provider.

Book through Singapore Polytechnic

Open the official English theory-test booking page and follow its registration link. SP publishes available schedules through its booking system. A “Register Interest” page can mean a session is full or booking has closed; it is not a confirmed seat.

Keep your booking confirmation and check its time, venue and documents again before leaving home. Use the official live page for the current fee and available session, rather than a price or date copied into an older blog post.

myPPCDL does not take examination bookings. Our membership charges pay for app study access and are separate from official course, examination and licence charges.

Prepare for understanding, then for timing

Begin with explanations for a topic you cannot yet describe. Try a worked example and say why its answer follows. Then use topic practice to check recall. When several topics feel familiar, try a timed mock and return to the explanations behind your mistakes.

For each wrong answer, record the missing condition: for example, whether a question describes overtaking or crossing, or whether a diagram is a daymark or a night view. This makes your next revision session more specific than simply repeating the same test.

Theory is one part of the route

SP separately offers a PPCDL handling assessment covering practical boat handling and Rules of the Road at PolyMarina. Check that listing for booking instructions and required documents. A published session window is not a promise about your individual assessment time.

App lessons and mock questions support study. They do not provide a licence, approve your practical competence or replace supervised boat-handling instruction. Keep practical preparation and theory revision in your plan.

PPCDL, APPCDL and the application

MPA distinguishes PPCDL for relevant SZ/SZH pleasure craft below 24 metres from APPCDL for 24 metres and above. A person’s driving licence is also different from the craft’s own licence. Use MPA’s current scope and conditions for your circumstances.

After successful assessment, follow MPA’s current application process through digitalPORT@SG. The MPA digital-licence circular explains the digital licence and the end of new physical-card issuance from September 2024. Avoid relying on older postal-application instructions.
